Reign of Hazards
Celestri, the Vengeful
Goddess of the Oceans
Description:
Celestri, the Vengeful, is a relatively major power within the Ether. She understands the Ether and its interaction with the lives of mortals. Celestri has found that she can manipulate the ether and the harmonic wave through the use of music. Her nomadic disciples are accomplished musicians and vocalists. She is also closely associated with the sea, particularly, the surf. Pilgrims travel to the coast lines each year to hear her voice amongst the crashing waves.
Celestri is very much in demand by all of the Ealintaine. Her soothing voice and refreshing music make even the most violent beings stop and listen. The attention she receives from the Ealintaine, as well as all of the immortals and mortals, continually increases her ethereal energy; energy the Ealintaine are unaware that they give Celestri. However, she is cautious not to reveal this fact, and, therefore, she openly offers them more energy in return. The net effect is to increase her power and leave the immortal with the feeling that Celestri has given them a gift of ethereal energy. She is quite manipulative and desires to rise to power over all of the Ealintaine.

Of Creation and the Greater Spirits
by Enasilaor, the Keeper of History for the Aleamitore House of First Elves, excerpt…
While Kiravor hid in the void, Celestri followed her brother Calledrym into the ether and bore witness to all that had been created. She marveled at the forests and mountains that Teysura had made upon our world and she delighted in the animals, birds and especially the elves. She was the first of the Ealintaine to cross the shadow that lies upon the ether and enter into the world as a physical presence. She walked among the elves and loved them.
She taught the elves to speak and to sing having learned the craft from Veavys, the Dreamer. They crafted the first instruments of sound and created music with her inspiration.
As Celestri led the elves to explore and see their new world, she came upon the great oceans and its wonders. From the ether, the seas had looked nothing more than an empty place of deep blue, but as she stood upon their shores and listened to the sounds of the surf, Celestri began to covet the seas and forsook the elves for a time. She entered the seas and swam among the creatures of the deep, learning all its mysteries.
Celestri grew lonesome as she swam to the depths of the oceans and rode her currents to the ends of the world. She felt lonely and desired the company of the elves whom she loved. She sang to them to from the surf and bid them to come join her. Many of the first elves did and were not seen again. But many remained and stayed upon the land and under the stars under which they first awoke…
…Celestri has only rage and wrath for those who would harm what she loves. The only one permitted to destroy what she loves is Celestri herself.
After the titanic battle between her and her two brothers, she called upon her brother and lover, Calledyrm to come to her and help her wreak her vengeance upon them. But he did not come and would not come until Faenithol taught Solithol to pray because the King of the Gods could not forgive the elves for the faithlessness of his Queen.
When she realized that he would not come to her, Celestri went to the Rynin Sea and hallowed it. It is said that she stayed there in a sulk until Calledyrm created an avatar and reconciled with his lover. Yet, despite all of the misery the expansive nature of her love has caused, Celestri still possesses a wandering eye. Woe to anyone loved by the Queen of the Gods because if she does not destroy them, Calledrym certainly will.
Recounting of the Noble Houses
by Enasilaor, the Keeper of History for the Aleamitore House of First Elves, excerpt…
“O Queen of the Gods, Beloved, Destroyer – I cannot help but sing your praises. . .” This opening line to the Wave of Lament by the famous poet Ossothir, known by all elven nobility, reveals an essential truth about Celestri. She cannot help but destroy what she loves. We elves understand this best of all. She is not our creator, but we worship her most fervently. Her love has changed us and destroyed uncounted amongst our numbers, but we cannot but help to return her love.
We elves are not alone in this affliction. Despite having stolen from them, cursed them, and destroyed their works the other spirits cannot help but love her either. Celestri is very much in demand by all of the Ealintaine. Her soothing voice, raised in Song – which she stole from Vaevys – makes even the most violent beings stop and listen. The attention she receives from the Ealintaine, as well as all of the other immortals and mortals, continually increases her ethereal energy. It is unclear if the great spirits are aware of this connection. My theory is that she cursed them so they cannot make logical connections between her actions and their consequences.
Although some few amongst the great spirits are more potent than she, none among their number are her equal in the scope of what their power touches. Much like the waters she created, Celestri is constantly slipping her bounds, accomplishing tasks by “borrowing” from the dominion of others. Currently, she rules the Ealintaine through her lover Calledyrm. It is an open question whether she cares to rule outright, but she is definitely accumulating the power necessary to press her claim.
The Divinium and the Docti existed before Amus created the Ether. Some scholars believe that the Docti slept until they were awakened by the works of the Divinium. I cannot speculate since no credible sources exist from that time. However, we can piece together that of all of the Divinium and the Docti that Celestri was the most aware of her fellows in the Void.
When Amus created the Ether, Celestri realized the connection between the harmonic wave and the Ether. In order to control it better, she stole Song from Vaevys. While other forms of Music are under Vaevys dominion, Celestri is the sole mistress of Song. Some theorize that she stole some of the ability to steal from Gaeruhn. Now he must consume to take power from others. Certainly, as we will see, she used his ability to create an avatar in secret long before the Flesheater came out of the void.
She watched as first, Teysura, and then, Kiravor came out of the void, but Celestri did not emerge. She only left the embrace of the void when Kiravor returned to it and Teysura recreated the world.
While Kiravor hid in the void, Celestri followed her brother Calledrym into the ether and rejoiced in all that had been created. Upon her entry into the Ether, water poured from the lands and pooled into the Oceans. As the breath of Calledyrm played over the waters, he became aware of his sister and desired her.
He came to her and loved her. Afterwards, Calledyrm exalted her above his other sisters and proclaimed her his queen. It would be unfair to suggest that Celestri did not return his love. However, it would be fair to say that Celestri loved more than just Calledrym for her heart contains love for nations.
She marveled at the forests and mountains that Teysura had made upon our world and she delighted in the animals and birds. She was astounded when Amus created humanity, but she was bewitched when Lorrynor created the elves.
Celestri was the first of the Ealintaine to cross the shadow that lies upon the ether and enter into the world as a physical presence. She did this in secret using a skill that she had “borrowed” from Gaeruhn while he still remained in the void. She walked among the elves and loved them. She taught the elves to speak and to sing. In turn, they raised their voices in her praise. Their song awoke Vaevys in the void, and thus was Vaevys aware of her loss. She taught us elves many ways to charm and ensnare through the power of our voices.
While Faenithol would eventually preserve us with his power, Celestri’s other gift to us was one of love and blood. She loved so many of the early elves that some small fraction of her essence is now carried in our blood, which explains why so many of us are immune to charms. Calledrym wondered where his beloved had gone, but he feared that she had returned to the void, not that she had come to mortal world to seduce the original elves.
As Celestri led the elves to explore and see their new world, she came upon the great oceans and its wonders. From the ether the seas had looked nothing more than an empty place of deep blue, but as she stood upon their shores and listened to the sounds of the surf, Celestri began to covet the seas and forsook the elves for a time.
Some of the elves went to our beloved and were not seen again. But many others resisted her siren song, remained, and stayed upon the land and under the stars under which we first awoke.
Her deception was only discovered when Gaeruhn and Kiravor kidnapped Elanil and began the Godling War. Kiravor attempted to swallow the seas and return them to the void. He did not expect his sister Celestri to rise from the waves to do battle. Besides Gaeruhn, she is closest among the Divinium to Kiravor’s destructive power, though she does not share his temperament. Their battle marred the world and alerted the other Divinium and Docti to her presence in the mortal world. Celestri was enraged that she could not destroy Kiravor herself so she cursed him instead. Her curse destroyed Kiravor’s capacity to create anything new. Nor was Gaeruhn spared her wrath. He is flesh, so she tried to drown him in the oceans. He only escaped by boiling the seas. It is said that Gaeruhn still fears to go near the oceans because he worries that his sister may drown him.
Celestri has only rage and wrath for those who would harm what she loves. The only one permitted to destroy what she loves is Celestri herself.
After the titanic battle between her and her two brothers, she called upon her brother and lover, Calledyrm to come to her and help her wreak her vengeance upon them.
